I have created many patterns in Adobe Illustrator. They are saved as PDF or DFX. How can I export those files into PatternMaker for modification?

importing DXF files has never worked with me. It gives me weird things, vectors all over the place. and no option for pdf.
If someone knows, I would be interested too

You can not import A pdf pattern in patternmaker. It is not a vector file.
You can open a DXF file in patternmaker, but you have to save it as dxf version 9 in illustrator. When it is saved as a higher dxf version you will get strange drawings!
When you open a file in PM change the file extension to dxf in the extension field. then you only see dxf files.
PM will ask you in what unit the file is drawn because dxf does not save the unit.
When you see the drawing it will have many points in curves because the dxf curves are drawn different then in PM, not with a curvepoint but very many small straight lines. It will be very difficult to change this pattern therefore. To be able to change it you will have to draw it over in PM with new curves.
Saving a patternmaker file as pdf is possible with a pdf creator program like microsoft to pdf or adobe writer. As printer you select the pdf program and when you select Print in Patternmaker you will save the pattern as a pdf file. But when it is a pdf file you can not change it anymore.
